SAF Armour
road relay race 2018
The Brief
To design a marathon race singlet that represented 48th Singapore Armour Battalion (48SAR) for Armour Road Relay Race 2018. Being in 48SAR myself, I was given the opportunity to design their singlet.
The Background
With many different military units in Armour joining the Armour Road Relay Race, 48 SAR needed a way for their runners to stand out from the crowd and be easily identified. At the same time, they also wanted to create a unifying identity that would show others their battalion unity. Hence, I took up the challenge to design their race singlet. It was a meaningful project that could help sharpen and maintain my design skills while still in Army.
The Concept
With 48SAR being Singapore’s first-ever Main Battle Tank battalion, the most obvious graphic choice to represent them was a tank. However, I decided to take on a fresh and different approach as compared to their previous designs using their mascot, the leopard instead. Known for its ferocity and speed, it perfectly reflects the image of 48SAR which takes pride in the firepower and speed of their Leopard 2SG tanks. Furthermore, instead of using a conventional logo like other units, I designed a vibrant and eye-catching illustration for the racing singlet. Hence, it made runners from 48SAR stand out from the crowd, giving them a sense of unity and pride.
