The monumental Guide

the Brief

To create a publication to document and archive the national monuments of Singapore. In addition, it should also stimulate public interest and promote greater awareness of Singapore's architectural heritage through these monuments.

The Monumental Guidebook Set

the background

The Monumental Tourist guide is a mock-up publication set for the client, The Nation Heritage Board, consisting of 3 separate booklets. The brief stated that the publication should document and archive the national monuments. In addition, it should also stimulate public interest, promote greater awareness and appreciation of Singapore's architectural heritage and history. As such, the main challenge of this project was to find a way to allow Singaporeans to be interested in discovering the fascinating stories that each monument had to tell.

The Concept

It is said that seeing is believing, so I took an out-of-the-box approach to the brief, exploring the best possible way to impart the information to readers. Instead of just being a regular book, my publication was crafted to get the readers out of their homes and involved by

  • Providing them the resources to conduct a self-tour/journey giving them a firsthand experience

  • Making reading fun with easy to read info-graphics for all ages

  • Onsite challenges encourage them to explore the monuments and actively learn more about its stories

By doing this, I was able to reach out to my target audience giving them a chance to experience the monuments first hand, having done so made the reading experience more memorable and exciting. As a result, effectively promoting the awareness and appreciation of these monuments.

Info-graphic styled of communication so that reader can understand the architecture of the building at a glance.

Materials for the challenges and postcards to help spread awareness as it can be passed around.
